About This Plant
Curly Spider Plant ‘Bonnie’ is a cultivated mutation of Chlorophytum comosum ‘Variegatum’, not a hybrid. It was discovered in the Netherlands in 1998 and selected for its compact growth and leaves that naturally curl, twist and bend backward. The species behind the cultivar is native across tropical and southern Africa.
‘Bonnie’ has the familiar green-and-cream coloring of a classic variegated Spider Plant, but its curled foliage gives it a fuller, playful look. Mature plants may send out long arching stems with small white flowers followed by baby plantlets, commonly called pups or spiderettes.
These Haven’s Choice plants have been growing in my care for over 12 months. The plant selected may or may not have flowers, flower stems or pups at the time of purchase.

How to Keep It Happy
Light: Medium to bright indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate lower light, but brighter filtered light generally supports fuller growth and stronger variegation. Avoid harsh direct sunlight.
Water: Allow the top 1–2 inches of the potting medium to begin drying, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Avoid keeping the roots continuously soggy or allowing the plant to remain completely dry for long periods.
If brown leaf tips become a recurring issue, filtered, distilled or rainwater may help reduce mineral buildup.
Soil: Use a well-draining potting medium that retains some moisture while still allowing airflow around the roots.
Humidity: Average household humidity is suitable. Higher humidity is not required, although moderate humidity is fine when paired with good airflow.
Temperature: Prefers approximately 60–80°F. Protect from frost, cold drafts and prolonged temperatures below 50°F.
Current Growing Conditions
Environment: Grown in indoor and outdoor greenhouse spaces and moved seasonally
Humidity: Approximately 60–75%
Current Light: Indirect sunlight
Current Potting Medium: Happy Houseplant Haven’s Chunky Classic Mix
This plant may need 7–14 days to acclimate to the light, temperature and humidity in its new home. Some temporary slowing of growth, slight changes in the curl of the leaves or minor tip browning may occur while it adjusts.
Because these plants currently grow at 60–75% humidity, provide good airflow and avoid allowing the potting medium to remain continuously wet as the plant adjusts to average household conditions.
