About This Plant
Alocasia Metalhead is a cultivated hybrid rather than a naturally occurring species. It was selected for its bold, upright growth and large glossy foliage with a metallic or iridescent sheen. Newer leaves can emerge with darker purple tones before maturing greener, while the leaf undersides and petioles can carry deeper coloring that gives the plant extra contrast. Missouri Botanical Garden describes ‘Metalhead’ as a hybrid cultivar that can mature into a substantial upright plant.
This exact plant has been growing in my care for over 12 months and is currently pushing a fresh new leaf, so it’s actively growing right now.

How to Keep It Happy
Light: Bright, indirect or filtered light is ideal. It can tolerate some gentle sun, but harsh direct afternoon sun may scorch the foliage. Missouri Botanical Garden recommends part shade to filtered sun.
Water: Keep the potting medium lightly and consistently moist during active growth, allowing the upper portion to begin drying before watering again. Avoid letting the roots sit in soggy soil.
Soil: Use an airy, well-draining aroid mix that retains some moisture without becoming compacted.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to higher humidity. Approximately 50–70% works well with good airflow.
Temperature: Warm conditions are best. Protect from cold drafts and prolonged temperatures below about 60°F.
Current Growing Conditions
Environment: Grown in indoor and outdoor greenhouse spaces and moved seasonally
Humidity: Approximately 60–75%
Current Light: Indirect sunlight
Current Potting Medium: Happy Houseplant Haven’s Chunky Aroid Mix
This plant may need 7–14 days to acclimate to the light, temperature and humidity in its new home. Some temporary slowing of growth, leaf repositioning or dropping of an older leaf can occur while it adjusts.
Because this plant is currently growing under indirect greenhouse light, introduce substantially brighter conditions or direct morning sun gradually.
Important Plant Note
Live plants naturally change over time and may have minor cosmetic imperfections, natural blemishes or older leaf damage. New growth may also continue developing between the time the plant is photographed and purchased.
