About This Plant
Alocasia Odora Batik is a cultivated variegated form of Alocasia odora, a tropical species native from eastern India through southern Japan and Borneo. The species naturally develops large, upright elephant-ear foliage, while ‘Batik’ is grown for the marbled cream, pale green and deep green patterning that makes each leaf look a little different.
The name “Batik” reflects the foliage’s painted, textile-like appearance. The amount, placement and coloring of the variegation can naturally change from one leaf to the next.
This exact plant has been growing in my care for over 6 months and was up-potted around 8 weeks ago. It is already a nice statement size at approximately 22 inches tall.

How to Keep It Happy
Light: Bright, indirect or filtered light is best. Good light helps support the variegated foliage, but harsh direct sunlight can scorch the lighter portions of the leaves.
Water: Water when the top 1–2 inches of the potting medium begin to dry. Water thoroughly and allow all excess water to drain. Avoid allowing the roots to remain soggy, but do not leave the plant completely dry for an extended period.
Soil: Use an airy, well-draining aroid mix that retains some moisture without becoming compacted or waterlogged.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Approximately 50–70% works well when paired with good airflow.
Temperature: Prefers approximately 65–85°F. Protect from cold drafts and prolonged temperatures below 60°F.
Current Growing Conditions
Environment: Greenhouse-grown and moved indoors and outdoors seasonally
Humidity: Approximately 60–75%
Current Light: Indirect sunlight
Current Potting Medium: Happy Houseplant Haven’s Chunky Aroid Mix
Recent Repot: Up-potted around 8 weeks ago
This plant may need 7–14 days to acclimate to the light, temperature and humidity in its new home. Some leaf movement, repositioning or temporary slowing of growth can occur during the adjustment period.
Because this plant currently grows in indirect greenhouse light, introduce substantially brighter light or direct morning sun gradually.
This plant was recently up-potted and should not need another immediate repot. Allow it to settle into its new environment before making additional changes unless there is a clear issue with the pot or growing medium.
Important Plant Note
Live plants naturally change over time and may have small cosmetic imperfections, including minor leaf marks, natural blemishes or older leaf damage. The plant may also continue growing between the time it is photographed and purchased.
Variegation is naturally variable. Future leaves are not guaranteed to have the same amount, coloring or pattern of variegation as the leaves currently shown.
