The Crassula ovata, commonly known as the Jade Plant, is a timeless succulent loved for its thick, glossy leaves and tree-like shape. With proper light and care, it can grow for decades — often becoming a meaningful, heirloom-style plant passed from home to home. Its bright green leaves can develop red edges in strong sunlight, giving it a bold, polished look that suits both modern and classic décor.

Native to South Africa, the Jade Plant is extremely drought-tolerant and thrives on minimal attention. It’s perfect for sunny windowsills, office desks, or any spot where you want long-lasting, low-maintenance greenery.

How to Keep It Happy

Light: Jade Plants grow best in very bright light and can handle several hours of direct sunlight. If your plant has been growing in indirect light, gradually introduce stronger sun to prevent scorching. Stronger light can also encourage compact growth and red coloring along the leaf edges.

Water: Allow the potting medium to dry between deep waterings. Water thoroughly, allow excess water to drain and never leave the plant sitting in water. Reduce watering during cooler or lower-light periods.

Soil: Use a gritty, fast-draining cactus and succulent mix with excellent drainage.

Humidity: Low to average household humidity is ideal. Jade Plants do not require elevated humidity.

Temperature: Comfortable household temperatures around 60–80°F work well. Protect from frost and freezing temperatures.

Current Growing Conditions

Environment: Grown indoors and outdoors and moved seasonally
Humidity: Approximately 25–50%
Current Light: Indirect sunlight
Current Potting Medium: Happy Houseplant Haven’s Cactus & Succulent Mix

This plant may need 7–14 days to acclimate to the light, temperature and humidity in its new home. Some temporary slowing of growth or slight changes in leaf position may occur while it adjusts.

Because these plants are currently growing in indirect sunlight, introduce substantially brighter light or direct sun gradually.

Live plants naturally change over time and may have minor cosmetic imperfections, older leaf damage or natural markings.
