About This Plant

The Crassula ovata ‘Tricolor’ is a stunning variegated form of the classic Jade Plant, featuring bright green leaves edged with creamy white and soft pink hues. In strong sunlight, the pink margins intensify, giving the plant a warm, glowing appearance. Its thick, glossy leaves and naturally branching, tree-like form make it a standout succulent for bright indoor spaces.

Native to South Africa, this drought-tolerant, slow-growing succulent thrives on minimal care. It’s perfect for sunny windowsills, modern décor, and anyone who loves colorful foliage without the high-maintenance requirements.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Green, cream and pink variegated foliage
  • Each plant develops its own color pattern
  • Established in my care for over 12 months
  • Small starter size that you can watch mature over time
  • Drought-tolerant and easy to maintain

How to Keep It Happy

Light: Very bright light is best. Several hours of gentle direct sun can help maintain compact growth and bring out stronger pink coloring. Introduce direct sunlight gradually because these plants are currently grown in indirect light.

Water: Allow the potting medium to dry completely between waterings. Water thoroughly, let the excess drain and avoid keeping the roots continuously wet.

Soil: Use a gritty, fast-draining cactus and succulent mix.

Humidity: Prefers low to average household humidity. Additional humidity is unnecessary.

Temperature: Approximately 60–80°F works well. Protect from frost and freezing temperatures.

University of Wisconsin Extension recommends bright light, excellent drainage and drying between waterings for Jade Plants. It specifically notes the cream-and-rose variegation of ‘Tricolor’.

Current Growing Conditions

Environment: Grown indoors and outdoors and moved seasonally
Humidity: Approximately 25–50%
Current Light: Indirect sunlight
Current Potting Medium: Happy Houseplant Haven’s Cactus & Succulent Mix

This plant may need 7–14 days to acclimate to the light, temperature and humidity in its new home. Some temporary slowing of growth or slight changes in coloration may occur while it adjusts.

Because these plants currently grow in indirect sunlight, introduce stronger light or direct sun gradually.

These are starter-size plants. Branching, fullness, leaf count, variegation pattern and the amount of pink, cream and green coloring will naturally vary from plant to plant.

Variegation can also change as the plant grows, and future leaves are not guaranteed to display the exact same color balance as the representative plant shown.
