About This Plant
Cathedral Window Haworthia is a true species, Haworthia cymbiformis, native to South Africa’s Cape Provinces. It grows as a compact succulent with thick, pale-green, boat-shaped leaves arranged in small rosettes.
What makes this plant especially fun is the translucent “window” near the tips of the leaves. Those clear areas give the foliage a glassy look and are the reason the plant is commonly called Cathedral Window Haworthia. North Carolina State Extension specifically lists H. cymbiformis under that common name and describes its pale-green, boat-shaped leaves and transparent tips.
These Haven’s Choice plants have been growing in my care for over 12 months. Some available pots have developed multiple clumps, including more than two rosettes, although the exact clump count will vary from plant to plant.
Why You’ll Love It
- Translucent leaf tips give it a unique “windowed” look
- Compact size works well on shelves, desks and windowsills
- Easy-care and more shade-tolerant than many succulents
- Established in my care for over 12 months
- Naturally produces offsets and can form fuller clumps over time
How to Keep It Happy
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate some gentle morning or late-day sun, but harsh midday sun may scorch the leaves. Haworthias are naturally more tolerant of partial shade than many succulents.
Water: Allow the potting medium to dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess water drain. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet, especially during cooler or lower-light periods.
Soil: Use a gritty, fast-draining cactus and succulent mix with excellent drainage.
Humidity: Low to average household humidity is ideal. Additional humidity or misting is not needed.
Temperature: Comfortable household temperatures work well. Protect from frost and prolonged cold conditions.
Current Growing Conditions
Environment: Grown indoors and outdoors and moved seasonally
Humidity: Approximately 25–50%
Current Light: Indirect sunlight
Current Potting Medium: Happy Houseplant Haven’s Cactus & Succulent Mix
This plant may need 7–14 days to acclimate to the light, temperature and humidity in its new home. Some slight changes in leaf position or growth rate may occur while it adjusts.
Because these plants currently grow in indirect sunlight, introduce substantially brighter light or direct sun gradually.
Important Plant Note
The photos are representative of the plants available and do not show the exact individual plant you will receive. Your Haven’s Choice plant will be selected from the same group in a 3-inch or 3.5-inch nursery pot with similar overall size and maturity.
Some pots may contain multiple clumps or rosettes, including more than two, while others may contain fewer. The exact number of clumps is not guaranteed.
Leaf arrangement, translucency, coloring, fullness and offset count will naturally vary from plant to plant.
