About This Plant

Scindapsus Jade Satin is a cultivated form of Scindapsus pictus, a tropical climbing species native from southeastern Bangladesh through parts of Southeast Asia and western/central Malesia. The species naturally grows as a climber in wet tropical forests. (Plants of the World Online)

Jade Satin is loved for its thick, velvety-looking green leaves and softer, more understated coloring compared with the heavily silvered forms of Scindapsus pictus. The foliage has a rich, matte-satin appearance that gives the plant a clean, lush look.

This exact plant has been growing in my care for over 12 months and is starting to trail, making it especially nice for its hanging basket.

Light: Bright, indirect or filtered light is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sun, which may scorch the leaves.

Water: Allow the upper portion of the potting medium to dry before watering again. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet.

Soil: Use a loose, airy and well-draining potting medium that retains some moisture without becoming soggy.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to higher humidity but can adapt to average household conditions with good airflow.

Temperature: Prefers warm indoor conditions around 65–80°F. Protect from cold drafts and prolonged cool temperatures.

Current Growing Conditions

Environment: Grown in indoor and outdoor greenhouse spaces and moved seasonally
Humidity: Approximately 60–75%
Current Light: Indirect sunlight
Current Potting Medium: Happy Houseplant Haven’s Chunky Aroid Mix

This plant may need 7–14 days to acclimate to the light, temperature and humidity in its new home. Some temporary slowing of growth or slight leaf repositioning can occur while it adjusts.

Because this plant currently receives indirect greenhouse light, introduce substantially brighter conditions gradually.

Important Plant Note

Live plants naturally change over time and may have minor cosmetic imperfections, older leaf damage or natural markings. The plant may also continue trailing and growing between the time it is photographed and purchased.
