About This Plant

Hoya Australis is a true Hoya species known for its thick, glossy green leaves and vigorous vining growth. It is native across a wide tropical range extending from northern Borneo and Sulawesi through New Guinea, Australia, and islands of the southwest Pacific, where it naturally grows as an epiphytic climber.

As it matures, Hoya Australis can produce clusters of fragrant, waxy white star-shaped flowers with reddish centers. This exact plant is already mature, well rooted, actively growing, and trained on a trellis, giving you an established plant that is ready to display.

It has been growing in my care for over 12 months and comes planted in a black decorative pot with the matching saucer included.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Mature, well-rooted and actively growing
  • Already trained on a trellis
  • Thick, glossy green foliage with a classic Hoya look
  • Decorative black pot and matching saucer are included
  • Can produce fragrant clusters of waxy white flowers as it matures

How to Keep It Happy

Light: Bright, indirect or dappled light is ideal. Gentle morning sun can also work after gradual acclimation. Good light helps encourage stronger growth and flowering.

Water: Water thoroughly, then allow the potting mix to dry significantly before watering again. Avoid keeping the roots continuously wet.

Soil: Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining potting medium that provides plenty of oxygen around the roots.

Humidity: Adapts well to average household humidity but appreciates moderate humidity with good airflow.

Temperature: Prefers warm household temperatures around 65–80°F. Protect from cold drafts and frost.

Current Growing Conditions

Environment: Greenhouse-grown and seasonally moved
Humidity: Approximately 60–75%
Current Light: Shaded greenhouse with indirect natural sunlight
Current Potting Medium: Happy Houseplant Haven’s Chunky Aroid Mix

This plant may need 7–14 days to acclimate to the light, temperature, and humidity in its new home. Some leaf movement, repositioning, or temporary slowing of growth can occur during the adjustment period.

Because this plant is currently growing in shaded greenhouse conditions, introduce substantially brighter light or direct morning sun gradually.

Important Plant Note

Live plants naturally change over time and may have small cosmetic imperfections, including minor leaf marks, natural blemishes, or older leaf damage. The plant may also continue growing between the time it is photographed and the time it is purchased.
