About This Plant
Hoya Carnosa is the classic Wax Plant—a true Hoya species known for its thick, glossy, semi-succulent leaves and long vining growth. The species is native across parts of eastern and Southeast Asia, including southern China, Myanmar and Laos through Taiwan and southern Japan, where it naturally grows as a climbing epiphyte or lithophyte.
Mature plants can produce fragrant clusters of waxy, star-shaped white to pale pink flowers with reddish centers. This exact plant has been growing in my care for over 12 months and is mature, well rooted and actively growing, with a nice 20-inch spread that works perfectly in its hanging basket.

How to Keep It Happy
Light: Bright, indirect or filtered light is ideal. Gentle morning sun can work after gradual acclimation, but protect from harsh direct summer sun.
Water: Allow the potting mix to dry significantly between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess water drain. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.
Soil: Use a chunky, airy, fast-draining potting medium that provides plenty of oxygen around the roots.
Humidity: Adapts to average household humidity but appreciates moderate to higher humidity with good airflow.
Temperature: Prefers warm indoor temperatures around 65–80°F. Protect from cold drafts and frost.
Current Growing Conditions
Environment: Greenhouse-grown and seasonally moved
Humidity: Approximately 60–75%
Current Light: Shaded greenhouse with indirect natural sunlight
Current Potting Medium: Happy Houseplant Haven’s Chunky Aroid Mix
This plant may need 7–14 days to acclimate to the light, temperature, and humidity in its new home. Some leaf movement, repositioning, or temporary slowing of growth can occur during the adjustment period.
Because it is currently growing in shaded greenhouse conditions, introduce substantially brighter light or direct morning sun gradually.
Important Plant Note
Live plants naturally change over time and may have small cosmetic imperfections, including minor leaf marks, natural blemishes, or older leaf damage. The plant may also continue growing between the time it is photographed and the time it is purchased.
