Kalanchoe daigremontiana (Mother of Thousands)

Botanical Name: Kalanchoe daigremontiana

The Kalanchoe daigremontiana, famously known as Mother of Thousands, is a fascinating succulent known for producing tiny plantlets along the edges of its leaves. These little babies drop off and root easily, making this one of the most prolific and easy-to-grow succulents out there.

Native to Madagascar, this plant thrives in bright light and dry conditions. Its upright, triangular leaves have a soft green to gray tone, often flushed with purple in strong sun. Whether grown in a sunny window or on a bright shelf, it adds a bold, architectural look to any succulent collection.

How to Keep it Happy:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light to full sun; develops richer color in strong light.

  • Water: Allow soil to dry completely between waterings; very drought-tolerant.

  • Soil: Fast-draining succulent or cactus mix. Growing in Happy Houseplant Haven's "The Succulent Solution"

  • Humidity: Prefers dry air; avoid overwatering or overly humid rooms.

  • Temperature: 60–85°F (USDA Zones 9–11).

  •  Pet Safety: Toxic to pets if ingested. Keep away from cats, dogs, and small animals.
